How to manage it
Prune in dry weather to reduce canker risk. Many cultivars are self-fertile, but a second variety improves fruit set.
Watch out for
Blooms very early, so late spring frosts frequently destroy the crop even though the dormant tree itself is quite cold-hardy - site in a frost-free spot. Short-lived and prone to bacterial canker.
