Mock privet (Phillyrea latifolia) — syntropic agroforestry species

A tough evergreen windbreak and hedge-builder for dry, rocky, coastal ground - structural glue rather than a fast producer, so give it time to earn its keep.

How to manage it

Broad-leaved evergreen for dense hedges and windbreaks; clips well and tolerates drought and salt, but regrowth after hard cuts is unhurried.

Watch out for

Not a biomass producer - slow growth and low regrowth vigour mean it's structural, not a chop-and-drop mulch source; needs patience to establish.
